Colder weather

I had a nice but rainy Thanksgiving with a household full of people - 14. Following the rain, the weather has turned colder with highs around 40 and lows in the teens and 20's.

There was quite a bit of activity over the weekend - Blue Jay, Mourning Dove, Chickadee, European Starling, Downy Woodpecker, Northern Cardinal, House Sparrow, Tufted Titmouse, Dark-eyed Junco all spotted at various times. Plus a squirrel, a chipmunk and 3 raccoons. The chipmunk has not been around for awhile, perhaps it was hunkered down in it's den.

I helped my brother move and found out his friend still owns a Wild Birds Unlimited store near my house. I find them a bit expensive, but like to support a local small business and acquaintance so I spent $35 there Sunday. Of course I didn't spend as much as the people in line ahead of me - they spent over $200. Therefore I shouldn't feel as guilty of overspending on birds!

Yay!

I'm glad you're seeing lots of birds. :D

Wild Birds Unlimited is pricey, but they do have good stuff. Buy what you can easily find at cheaper places, and save them for specialty items that are difficult or impossible to find elsewhere.

I buy a lot of my bird stuff at farm stores. I got my new wire, easy-clean thistle feeders at Farm & Fleet.
